Here we are. Preparing for our next trip. Arranging for hotels,
confirming flights, digging out passports, comparing itineraries and generally
scurrying about getting ready. Ann is getting us checked in, arranging
drivers, shuttles, tours, hotels, mapping out our drive, renting cars, seat
assignments, TSA pre-check... I am buying batteries for my new camera
flash. Very important. Batteries. Yes. Yes.
To be truthful, Ann did most of the planning for this trip. Ok, Ok, Ok, Ann has planned everything worthwhile for all our trips. I tend to just show up and follow her around. Ann (the wonderful) is very particular about most things. She spent lots of time comparing and contrasting hotels, reading reviews and finding the best tours, emailing people, asking lots of questions. I am being very supportive, saying things like, "hmmm", "Yes", "Interesting". The truth is Ann spends hours trying to find the best. I on the other hand, I would pick the 2rd cheapest hotels that came up on Google. That is when I am being picky. If I wasn't being picky I would pick the cheapest.
Case in point. For our last trip, I arranged a very crowded tour of the Vatican, 1 hour before closing. In comparison, Ann has arranged a tour of the Vatican scavi tour (catacombs) where they let in only 250 people a day. She has arranged a private tour of Herculaneum with a professional archeologist. Man, she is good.
This time we are planning to do the southern half of Italy. Here is our itinerary, laboriously mapped out by Ann: Rome for a few days, Venosa, Alberobello, Matera, Montepurso, Naples (day trip with Herculaneum) ... and, maybe a day trip to Capri. All cool stuff.
I am planning to do another blog. I am going to try to keep a record of our activities. Share pictures and stories of our travels. Hopefully entertain. If you are interested in hearing more, or if you want to be removed from the distribution list, let me know. I will not be offended. I will send them out via email but also (trying to be more modern for me) posting them on Blogspot. Here are the links along with the emails from our last trip. Buon viaggio!
